How the title of Expat psychologist was born
When I arrived in The Netherlands over a decade ago, it surprised me when one of my Dutch colleagues said there’s no practice to help expats specifically and that there was no service that offered support to expats. He suggested to me: ” Why don’t you start one, because you have both the education and the expat experience to provide the services these expats need.
I knew that using my experiences living in different countries, and my broad education in psychology, I could help expats work through their hardships. And before I knew the title of Expat Psychologist was born. Shortly after, I set up my own psychological practice in The Netherlands and became the first Expat Psychologist. I felt that as an expat myself, it would be a perfect opportunity to build a service that helps expats to face their challenges.
At Expat Psychologist, today we offer support not only to the expat community but also to their spouses and their children. Our client circle includes ambassadors, international students, people who are working for international companies, NGO’s or UN-umbrella companies. Our clients come from many different backgrounds with even more versatile stories, and with all sorts of challenges. Our goal is to always be there for our expat community – so, they know that help is readily available to them whenever they need it.

Leading International practice with a team of many amazing psychologists
Being a good leader is very important to me. My idea of leadership involves a subtle tango between identifying my own personal strengths as a leader, and the needs of people I wish to lead.
